How Karen Finally Beat Acid Reflux After 20 Years

It's never too late to heal your gut and feel good again.

If you’ve ever been jolted awake in the middle of the night feeling like your chest is literally on fire, you’re going to relate to this story. When Karen, 65, reached out to us, this wasn’t just something that happened to her now and then - she’d been battling heartburn for over two decades.

When Heartburn Becomes a Way of Life

“I was diagnosed with reflux more than 20 years ago, and later a hiatus hernia about five years back,” she says. “My heartburn was so bad sometimes that I would wake up and need to get up and drink water to relieve the burn.  Then sometimes I could be up for 1-2 hours. Her symptoms regularly disrupted her sleep and ruined meal times with constant worry about what she could eat or drink. When we asked what her main symptoms were, her two words: the “pain” and the “burn”, summed it up perfectly.

The Struggle with Medication

Karen works part-time and travels regularly so keeping her reflux under control was important. She tried lots of “solutions” but the symptoms never really went away, even when she was put on a prescription proton-pump inhibitor called Esopreze. Although the medication helped at times, it wasn’t enough. It dulled the symptoms without fixing the problem, and Karen knew long-term use of PPIs wasn’t ideal for her gut health. Which is why when she saw an ad for the Acid Relief pop up on her feed, something made her stop to take a look.

Taking a Chance on Something New

“I saw an ad on Facebook and read the positive comments,” she told us. “I thought, I really need to get off these PPI’s as I know they are bad for the gut. So I gave it a try.”

Karen didn’t ease in either, she went all in by making the switch all at once. “I started the acid relief and stopped my medication all on the one day. I did have about 3 -4 days of heartburn but then it stopped. I have not had any since.” It wasn’t a slow transformation either as she found relief set in pretty quickly; “I noticed that almost from the first week that I was not having any symptoms at all after the initial few days.”

Enjoying Food Again

For the first time in what felt like forever, food became something she could enjoy again. And as her symptoms improved, she slowly reintroduced foods that previously triggered her symptoms.  “I did not change my diet straight away, but I now can eat things like pizza and bread without any symptoms at all.”

The freedom of being free from heartburn has made a massive difference to not only her comfort but her confidence too; “I feel much better if we go out to eat so that I don’t have to be so picky when ordering my meals.”

Ten Months Later and Still Going Strong

After ten months on the supplement, Karen says she’s genuinely glad she took the chance. For anyone considering trying the Acid Relief she says that “anything is worth a try but I have already been on them for 10 months and I am so glad I did give it a go.”

As for what comes next in her healing journey, well - it’s looking positive so far. Karen tells us that when she briefly stopped taking the Acid Relief she was surprised to see her symptoms didn’t return.

“I was running out of my acid relief capsules, so I quickly ordered online. As we do travel a lot I don’t do the subscription. My order took longer than my tablets lasted, so I had to go back onto the Esopreze until they arrived. It was approximately 10 days. Funny thing was, I was actually taking my cholesterol tablets instead (which I had also stopped taking). So, have the Terra Health acid relief capsules cured my problems? I did not have one reflux or heartburn attack in the 10 days.”

After years of pain, medication, and disrupted nights, Karen’s now living without the daily worry of reflux, and the freedom to enjoy food again. We call that a win.
