There always seems to come a point during the summer when you suddenly realize you're more tired than you expected to be.
You’ve been making the most out of finally having longer evenings; eating outside, walking after dinner instead of lounging around, spending weekends exploring somewhere new, tackling jobs in the garden, and generally moving more than you did a few months ago. On the face of it, you’re doing all of the right things, so it can feel confusing when your energy starts dipping instead of rising.
Summer has a way of convincing us that we should naturally feel more energetic. After all, we're spending more time outdoors, often eating fresher foods, soaking up more daylight and, hopefully finding more opportunities to relax too! Yet the reality looks very different to many. They feel sluggish by mid-afternoon, rely on yet another coffee to get through the day, or notice they're running out of steam much sooner than usual.
The truth is that summer can be surprisingly demanding on the body. We often ask more of ourselves without even realizing it. Longer days encourage us to stay active for longer, holidays interrupt our usual routines, warmer weather places extra demands on hydration, and social calendars become fuller than they have been all year. They're all wonderful parts of the season, but they still require energy.
And that's exactly what we're exploring in the final part of our Summer Reset Series.
Over the past few weeks we've looked at how calming the nervous system can influence wellbeing, why gut health deserves more attention than it often gets, and how quality sleep quietly supports almost everything else we do. This final article brings those conversations together by looking at energy. Not the temporary boost that comes from caffeine or sugar, but the deeper, steadier energy your body works hard to produce every single day.
More Than Just Feeling Tired
When we talk about energy, most of us think about how awake we feel. Did we sleep well? Have we had enough coffee? Is it nearly lunchtime yet?
But real energy is far more complex than simply feeling sleepy or alert. Every heartbeat, every breath, every thought you have and every step you take relies on tiny processes happening inside trillions of cells throughout your body. Even while you're sitting quietly reading this article, your body is producing energy, repairing tissues, supporting your immune system and carrying out countless jobs you'll never consciously notice.
It's easy to forget just how much work our bodies are doing behind the scenes.
That work depends on a combination of factors. Quality sleep gives your body time to recover, good nutrition provides the raw materials your cells need, and hydration allows countless biological processes to happen efficiently. In addition, regular movement strengthens the systems that create and use energy, while periods of rest allow those same systems to recover.
When one or more of these foundations starts slipping (even slightly) we don't always notice any major symptoms straight away. We often brush it off tiredness that’s “just part of life." We lose motivation to exercise, it gets harder to concentrate, and we find ourselves reaching for sugary snacks during the afternoon slump or wondering why we seem to have less patience than usual.
Sometimes it's not that we're lazy or lacking motivation; our bodies are simply asking for a little more support.
Where Glutathione Fits Into the Picture
One area that's attracted growing attention in recent years is the role antioxidants play in supporting healthy cellular function.
Every day our bodies are exposed to things that create what's known as oxidative stress. It's a completely normal process that happens as we breathe, digest food, exercise and simply go about daily life. Factors like pollution, poor sleep, emotional stress, illness and even prolonged sun exposure can all increase this process. Thankfully, our bodies have their own built-in defence system to help keep everything in balance.
One of the most important members of that defence system is glutathione.
Often called the body's master antioxidant, glutathione is produced naturally inside almost every cell. But instead of acting like a stimulant that gives you a sudden burst of energy, its job is much quieter and arguably much more important. It helps protect cells from oxidative stress, supports the body's natural detoxification pathways, and helps other antioxidants continue doing their jobs effectively.
For some people, particularly during busy or demanding periods, supplementing with liposomal glutathione becomes part of their wider wellness routine. Liposomal delivery is designed to help improve absorption, allowing more glutathione to reach the body where it's needed. Rather than replacing healthy habits, it works alongside them, supporting your body's natural antioxidant defences while you continue focusing on sleep, movement, hydration and balanced nutrition.
A Summer Worth Enjoying
If there's one lesson that's run through every article in this series, it's that wellbeing isn't usually transformed by one big decision.
Instead, it's:
- the extra glass of water before you head out into the sunshine.
- the evening walk instead of another hour scrolling.
- going to bed when you're tired instead of squeezing one more episode into the day.
- filling your plate with colourful foods.
- giving yourself permission to rest without feeling guilty.
- choosing habits that support your body instead of constantly asking it to do more.
Those choices might seem small on their own, but together they create something much bigger. They create resilience. They help you recover more easily from busy days, bounce back more quickly when life gets hectic, and enjoy the moments that make summer so special without feeling completely drained by them.
Let’s be real about it; the best kind of energy isn't the frantic, caffeine-fuelled rush that disappears by lunchtime. It's waking up feeling refreshed, having enough left in the tank for an evening walk, laughing through dinner with friends without counting down the minutes until bed, and ending the day sinking into your pillow feeling pleasantly tired rather than utterly exhausted.
Perhaps that's the real reset. Not finding more hours in the day, but having the energy to make the most of the ones you've already got.
