All About Acid Relief: Benefits & Dosage
Your go-to guide for using our Acid Relief supplement.
Acid Relief is one of our most popular supplements and we get a LOT of queries about when to take it, how to take it, and what to take it for. So we decided it was time to put together a post to help you understand what exactly this supplement does and how to make it work best for you.
What is Acid Relief?
Acid Relief is a soothing blend of natural ingredients that work together to ease burning sensations such as heartburn and reduce irritation and inflammation in the stomach and esophagus. It contains ingredients such as aloe vera and slippery elm bark which are known for their natural anti-inflammatory benefits. It works by coating the mucosal lining of the esophagus and stomach to protect it from acid damage and give it time to heal.
How it Works With the Reflux Inhibitor
Acid Relief (AR) is taken with our Reflux Inhibitor as part of our Heartburn Relief Kit. In this duo, the Reflux Inhibitor (RI) gets to work on getting your natural acidity back to normal, to resolve your acid reflux, and the acid relief works on relieving your symptoms. However, there are some cases where the RI isn’t recommended and in this case you’d take the AR only, often alongside any PPI you’re already on.
When Should I Take Acid Relief Without the Reflux Inhibitor?
The Acid Relief is best taken alone in cases where there is any erosion in the stomach or esophagus. This is because the RI adds acidity, and you don't want to do that in the case of erosion (although this may be possible down the line when it heals up).
We recommend the Acid Relief taken alone to help with conditions such as:
- Gastritis
- Barrett’s Esophagus
- Stomach/Peptic Ulcers
If you are already on a PPI to manage any of the above conditions, you can stay on this medication whilst taking the Acid Relief. Whilst we prefer natural alternatives, there is absolutely a time and place for PPIs and acid blockers, and this is it. Once you’ve been cleared from any of the above conditions but still suffer from acid reflux, you can go ahead and start on the Reflux Inhibitor also if you wish.
Adjusting Dosage
The minimum dosage of Acid Relief is 2 daily and you can take this at any time of the day, but it’s generally most effective taken with or after a meal. You can take up to 10 Acid Relief daily as/if needed when your symptoms flare up. We recommend starting with 2 and increasing gradually until you find the dosage that works best for you. You can always change this at any point if your symptoms increase or decrease; it’s all about listening to your body.
If you find it difficult to swallow capsules, the Acid Relief can be opened up and mixed in with yogurt or anything you like. Note: this cannot be done with our Reflux inhibitor as it is acidic.
What Results to Expect
The goal of the Acid Relief is to soothe any digestive discomfort and rebuild the lining of your stomach and esophagus to prevent further damage. This is a process that takes time, so you’ll see gradual improvements over the course of the first few weeks. Remember, the damage didn’t happen overnight either. Weeks 1 - 4 are generally where the adjustment period happens as you’re honing in on the right dosage for you and the AR is starting to work its magic. From week 4 onwards you’ll see noticeable improvements and by week 12 many clients will have substantially reduced their initial dosage if not stopped completely.
However, it is worth noting here that Acid Relief does not resolve acid reflux; it simply helps to repair the damage caused by reflux and ease discomfort. So if you do also suffer from acid reflux alongside one or more of the conditions listed earlier, we recommend checking in with your doctor at this point to get the all-clear on whether the condition has resolved. If it has been resolved. which is often the case with our clients in this situation, you can then start taking the complete Heartburn Relief Kit including the Reflux Inhibitor to also resolve your acid reflux.
Improve Digestion with Acid Relief & Bloat Control
Many of our clients who use Acid Relief also find our Bloat Control supplement very helpful as it contains digestive enzymes to help break down food in the stomach. This is especially important in the cases of clients who are on PPIs for cases such as Barrett's Esophagus, as PPIs reduce the acidity needed for the breakdown of food.
